Babkha and Micronationalism
  1. What is Babkha?

The Kingdom Of Babkha is a micronation, i.e. an imaginary country, an entity created by like minded people who share the common goal of building a new type of nation that is not bound by geography. A micronation has often been called by many names, but no matter what you call it, the definition does not change. A micronation is usually an online community of individuals interested in the hobby of nation-building.

You may have also noticed a Middle Eastern theme to this micronation (the site graphics, titles, etc), that is because Babkha is based on ancient and medieval Persia. This makes us very different from other micronations, many of which are exact replica's of modern day Europe or North America, our view on micronationalism is that it is a chance to actually create a new type of nation, create new political structures and to use the backdrop of a glorious culture to mould a new one.

  2. What is the Grand Commonwealth?

The Grand Commonwealth is an incentive of a group of micronations to share resources and to create a joint foreign and military policy, so that the individual member nations can focus on further developing their national culture and identity. The Grand Commonwealth has its own government structure, but its member nations retain a great amount of autonomy. To find out more who the other member nations are and how the Grand Commonwealth works, please visit its website or forums

  3. Is Babkha an Islamic state?

Although Babkha is based on Middle Eastern culture and institutions, no religion in accorded any official or favoured status in Babkha. There is complete freedom of religion and Babkha is governed as a secular, democratic Constitutional Monarchy.

  4. What type of a micronation is Babkha?

Babkha is a non secessionist, non territorial micronation that claims personal sovereignty. This is a philosophical question, eg. that we as human beings are all created (or evolved if you will) as sovereign, independent and conscious individuals.

Generally Babkha seeks to simulate a nation that is loosely based on the culture, institutions and social structure of medieval Persia/Iran. We are however based on contemporary realities.

  5. Are there any other micronations besides Babkha?

Yes, and many. There exists worldwide hundreds of micronations, especially in the US, where this phenomenon began. A good directory of micronations can be found at MNN.

  6. How serious is micronationalism?

As mentioned above, micronationalism is primarily a socio-political exercise involving the simulation of all the trappings, functions and intrigues of a nation state. However, some micronations are more serious - eg. they seek political recognition and sovereignty from existing macronations (internationally recognised states). Babkha fits mainly in the former description with the addition of a strong cultural identity.
Babkhan Citizenship
  1. How do I become a Babkhan citizen?

Citizenship in Babkha is governed by the Citizenship Act 2001. It basically states that anyone is allowed to become a citizen of Babkha unless the person holds a public office in another micronation.

An added benefit is access to the internet at least once a week, as well as a working email account which can be obtained through various service providers. A good directory of e-mail service providers can be found at the Free Email Address Directory.

  2. How much do I need to pay for Babkhan citizenship?

Absolutely nothing. We are not a commercial enterprise and therefore do not charge a fee to become a citizen of Babkha. All Babkhan assets are paid for or provided by donors (anonymous or otherwise).

  3. Can I have citizenship in another micronation and still join Babkha?

Babkha does not encourage dual micronational citizenship. This is due to the potential of conflict of interests that might occur in the course of participating in micronationalism. Nonetheless, Babkhan citizenship is open to citizens of other micronations.

  4. What is the exact process of citizenship?

Due to the nature of Babkha, only citizenship by naturalisation is practiced. An application for citizenship can be accessed from the Community section of our website. The form is submitted to the Vizier of Home Affairs upon which further enquiries might be made to the applicant. Upon the conclusion of the enquiries, the Vizier of Home Affairs will then register the applicant as a citizen of Babkha. The applicant will then be contacted via e-mail with the good news.

  5. What should I do while my citizenship is still pending?

Get active! Make sure presence known, make sure that Babkha knows you want to be a part of what is fast becoming one of the internet's most rewarding online experiences. You can do this by e-mailing our citizens privately, or posting your questions and comments to our community forums.

  6. What can I do as a citizen of Babkha?

Almost anything! Babkha is one of the most active micronations around, and opportunities for participation are essentially unlimited.

As Babkha is a young micronation, we have plenty of room for new citizens, if you would like to actively participate in the politics of this micronation, we have many vacant Vizieral Positions, if you would like to have limited participation in this micronation then you can be appointed as a Satrap to a province of your choice. If you would like to join but are apprehensive about doing anything right now, you can become a citizen and apply for government positions later!
